Rainfall at Nearly 10 Inches
A weekend storm dropped an additional half an inch of rain on Ventura County, bringing the season total to nearly 10 inches at the county Government Center, the flood control district reported Sunday.
Heavy El Nino storms have already brought more than twice as much rain to the county as fell all last winter, and the rainfall total is two-thirds the normal amount for an entire rainy season, weather officials said. Last year, the county received 3.5 inches of rain during the rainy season; the average amount is 15.35 inches.
The county will have a chance to dry out today, but the next storm is expected to move in on Christmas Eve, when there will be a 70% chance of precipitation, said Bill Hoffer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
In Saturday’s storm, half an inch of rain fell at the Government Center in Ventura and more than a quarter of an inch fell at Moorpark College. The snow level dropped to 4,500 feet in Lockwood Valley.
