Mater Dei Plays Nation’s Top Boys’ Basketball Team

Santa Ana Mater Dei High, No. 3 in The Times’ boys’ basketball rankings, plays Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy, the consensus top-ranked team in the nation, at 9 tonight in the showcase game of the Nike Extravaganza in the Pyramid at Long Beach State.

Other evening session games: No. 4 Long Beach Poly vs. St. Louis Vashon at 7:30; Villa Park vs. No. 17 Crenshaw at 6; No. 8 Santa Margarita vs. Las Vegas Green Valley at 4:30, and No. 7 Corona Centennial vs. La Habra Sonora at 3.

Afternoon session games include: No. 23 Bellflower St. John Bosco vs. Huntington Beach Ocean View at 1; Brea Olinda vs. Valley Center at 11:30 a.m.; Costa Mesa vs. Anaheim Servite at 10 a.m., and Westminster vs. No. 15 Glendora at 8:30 a.m.

No. 5 Fairfax plays defending state Division I runner-up Modesto Christian at 8:15 tonight at College of the Canyons in the featured game of the Sylmar Extravaganza.

Reward Offered for Information in Shooting

Inglewood police announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who fatally shot Crenshaw High basketball player Andre Morgan.

Morgan was shot Nov. 26 while walking to a friend’s house. The suspect fled in an older-model, two-tone Ford Tempo, police said. Information should be reported to (310) 412-5246 or 412-5210.
