2 Men Hold Up Bank, Flee With Bag of Cash

Ventura County’s first bank robbery of the year occurred Monday morning when two men held up U.S. Bank in Camarillo and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, federal authorities said.

The holdup occurred just after 10 a.m. at the branch in the 600 block of Daily Drive. The bank occupies a first-floor suite inside a two-story building. Neither robber was armed and no one was injured.

According to FBI Special Agent Brent Robbins, a masked robber jumped over the counter, opened a cash drawer and stuffed bills into a bag while the other man, who wasn’t masked, stood at the front door.

The men fled in a stolen 1989 Toyota station wagon, which was abandoned about a block away. Authorities believe they left the county in a second vehicle parked nearby.

Authorities have a surveillance video of the robbery and plan to dust the stolen car for fingerprints. The men could also be responsible for a Bank of America holdup in Thousand Oaks last month, Robbins said.
