Publicist Breaks Leg Trying to Break Up Scuffle
Ricardo Jimenez, a publicist for Bob Arum’s Top Rank boxing organization, suffered a broken right leg after trying to break up a shoving match between Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas at Wednesday’s Biltmore Hotel news conference.
Jimenez was on Vargas’ side of the podium when the Oxnard fighter shoved De La Hoya. When handlers for both fighters swarmed in, the crush of bodies overwhelmed Jimenez.
He was taken to a hospital and may need surgery, according to Bill Caplan of Top Rank.
