Noise Is What Matters Most

Packer quarterback Brett Favre is now 12-18 in domes, and 13-33 on artificial turf.

But Ram guard Adam Timmerman, one of his former blockers in Green Bay, said the decibels pumped out by the roaring St. Louis fans were the big difference Sunday.

“We don’t have to deal with the noise, and they did,” he said. “I don’t think the turf is that big a deal. You probably look at their turf record and say it is, but I think the biggest thing is they’re on the road. You just look at people’s road record and it’s always worse than playing at home.”

For everyone, that is, except the Rams, who finished the regular season 8-0 on the road and 6-2 at home.

The heat was on Kurt Warner--not from the Green Bay pass rush, but the heating pads applied to his lower back every time he went to the sideline.

Warner is coming off a brutal week. He could barely talk because of bruised vocal cords--an injury that required him to wear a longer face mask Sunday--and had a nasty bout with stomach flu. The backache has been ongoing.

“I’ve been having back spasms over the course of a couple weeks,” he said. “With the things that have happened this week, the sickness and stuff, I haven’t been up on my fluids. I’m probably not replenished. My back got a little stiff on me.”

His voice sounded fine, though, only slightly raspy.

“It feels good to me,” he said.
