Cavaliers’ Losing Streak Ends at 12

Wesley Person scored 27 points, Andre Miller had 17 points and the Cavaliers ended their longest skid in 20 seasons by routing the Minnesota Timberwolves, 114-81, Tuesday night at Cleveland.

The Cavaliers, who had lost 12 in a row, outscored the Timberwolves, 45-4, over a 9:37 stretch spanning the second and third quarters.

Cleveland had such a big lead in the fourth quarter that even 7-foot rookie center DeSagana Diop wanted a piece of the Timberwolves.

“The rook was saying, ‘Let’s blow these guys out by 20 so I can get in,’” guard Bimbo Coles said of Diop. “I was like, ‘Hey, big fella, just calm down, let’s get a win.’”

New York 78, Philadelphia 71--Charlie Ward scored 11 of his season-high 14 points in the final 12 minutes for the Knicks at New York.

The Knicks extended their winning streak to a season-high four games.

Milwaukee 109, Boston 90--Sam Cassell scored 20 points, and Glenn Robinson and Ray Allen each had 19 for the Bucks at Milwaukee.

Antoine Walker had 25 points for the Celtics.

Detroit 89, Washington 86--Clifford Robinson made the game-tying and the game-winning shots to help the Pistons overcome Michael Jordan’s 32 points at Washington.

Jerry Stackhouse had 24 points for Detroit.

Charlotte 78, San Antonio 73--Reserve Bryce Drew’s 15 points at San Antonio helped the Hornets end a two-game losing streak.

Tim Duncan had 29 points and 21 rebounds for San Antonio.

Minutes after the game, the Alamodome was evacuated because of a bomb threat and police began searching the arena.

Houston 100, Golden State 96--Steve Francis had 33 points and Kenny Thomas had 23 points, including six in overtime, sparking the Rockets at Houston.

Larry Hughes scored 17 points for the Warriors.

Miami 100, Denver 94--Eddie Jones scored 37 points, including a key three-point play in overtime, and Miami held off the Nuggets at Denver.

Raef LaFrentz had 30 points for Denver.

Phoenix 91, Chicago 90--Shawn Marion had 24 points, including a 20-foot jumper that proved to be the winning basket at Phoenix.

Ron Artest led Chicago with 26 points.

Portland 92, Seattle 86--Dale Davis had 20 points and 14 rebounds at Seattle, and the Trail Blazers won for the 10th time in 12 games.

Rasheed Wallace, who got his 13th technical of this season, had 16 points and 13 rebounds for Portland.

Gary Payton scored 27 points for Seattle.

Boston’s Paul Pierce and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki were among seven reserves selected to play in their first All-Star game.

Indiana’s Jermaine O’Neal and Atlanta’s Shareef Abdur-Rahim joined Pierce as first-time picks on the East team, and will be joined by Alonzo Mourning (Miami), Ray Allen (Milwaukee), Jason Kidd (New Jersey) and Tracy McGrady (Orlando).

Steve Nash (Dallas), Wally Szczerbiak (Minnesota), Peja Stojakovic (Sacramento) and Nowitzki were first-time selections on the West team, which also includes Karl Malone (Utah), Gary Payton (Seattle) and Chris Webber (Sacramento).

Reserves were selected by a vote of coaches. The game is Feb. 10 at Philadelphia.
