Fireworks, Festivities for the Fourth

Fireworks displays, festivals and other Fourth of July activities are scheduled around Ventura County. Events take place Thursday unless otherwise noted.

Camarillo

The Pleasant Valley/Somis Lions Club will host its annual fireworks at Freedom Park beginning at 4 p.m. The event includes food, Jolly Jumpers, a rock-climbing wall and live entertainment. Fireworks start at 9:10 p.m. The park is at the Camarillo Airport, off Pleasant Valley Road, between Eubanks Street and Freedom Park Drive. Free admission. 484-8388, Ext. 395.

Fillmore

The annual Star Spangled Car Show & Festival will feature more than 300 street cars, classics, hot rods and trucks at Central Park, and along Central Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Arts and crafts vendors, food, live entertainment, vintage-train rides, military displays and children’s activities are included. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. at the Fillmore High School football field, 555 Central Ave.; gates open at 6 p.m. Free. 524-3701.

Moorpark

The city will hold its annual Third of July Fireworks Extravaganza from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Arroyo Vista Community Park, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road. There will be music, carnival games, tug-of-war, a climbing wall, an inflatable slide, Jolly Jumpers and food court. Performers include Raymond Michael with his Elvis Presley tribute at 4:30 p.m. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. $1. 517-6300.

Ojai

The Ojai Music Festival’s jazz concert, “American Salute,” will feature the 18-piece Henry Mancini Alumni Big Band at 5:30 p.m. at Libbey Bowl. $15 general; $12 senior citizens; $5 children 6 to 17; free 5 and younger. 646-2053.

The Ojai Independence Day Committee will hold several activities. A downtown parade from Country Club Drive to Park Road starts at 10 a.m. Picnic in the Park with food, contests, games and entertainment begins at 11:30 a.m. at Sarzotti Park, 510 Park Road. Gates open at 5 p.m. at Nordhoff High School stadium, 1401 Maricopa Highway, for a concert featuring Soul City Survivors, starting at 6 p.m. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m. $8 general, $3 children. 646-4295.

Oxnard

Channel Islands Harbor will host festivities beginning at 11 a.m. with a children’s parade, followed by live entertainment, arts and crafts, a rock-climbing wall, food, children’s activities, farmers market and tall-ship tours, until 5:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Free. 985-4852.

Simi Valley

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library’s annual holiday affair from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. includes entertainment, games, presidential look-alikes, face painting, storytelling, food and a concert by the Los Angeles Police Department Concert Band. Free. The museum is at 40 Presidential Drive. Museum admission is $5 general, $3 for senior citizens 62 and older, free for children 15 and younger. (800) 410-8354.

Gates open at 3 p.m. at Simi Valley High School, 5400 Cochran St., for food and crafts booths, live entertainment and a skydiving team. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. $9 general, $6 children. 584-4400.

Thousand Oaks

Family open swim, noon to 4 p.m., Thousand Oaks High School and Newbury Park High School pools. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. Best viewing at The Oaks mall, north parking lot, Ventura Freeway at Lynn Road, Thousand Oaks. Both events free. 381-2747.

Maestro Elmer Ramsey will lead his 30th annual Conejo Pops Orchestra holiday concert at 5 p.m. at Conejo Community Park, Dover and Hendrix avenues, Thousand Oaks. Free. 495-6471.

Ventura

The city’s fair on downtown’s Main Street, between Fir Street and Ventura Avenue, will run from 10:30 to 5 p.m. It will include a Push’em-Pull’em Parade at 10:30 a.m., entertainment on six stages, experimental aircraft flyovers, food and crafts. Free. 654-7749.

The Rotary Club of Ventura and Ventura College will host their annual show from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the college athletic field, 4667 Telegraph Road. Featured will be the Rubicon Theatre Company, zydeco band Acadiana and others, youth games, strolling entertainers and food. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. $8 general, $5 children. 642-2358.

Westlake Village

The Westlake Yacht Club will hold boat races and a parade at Westlake Lake. An electric boat race starts at 10:30 a.m., the round-the-island small sailboat race at 12:30 p.m. and the Decorated Boat Parade at 4 p.m. Entry fee, $4; viewing is free.
