Women’s Leader Blasts Woods for Inaction
The head of the National Council of Women’s Organizations criticized golfer Tiger Woods for not speaking out against private golf clubs that don’t have women members.
Martha Burk said Wednesday she was disappointed by Woods’ statement that “there’s nothing you can do” to force all-male clubs to open their doors to women.
The clubs include Augusta National, home of the Masters, and Muirfield, site of this week’s British Open.
“At some point, I hope that there is more than one golfer that has the courage to speak out for those that are being excluded,” said Burk, whose Washington-based organization has more than 160 women’s groups.
