Rookie Damian Moss has been taking cues from veteran left-hander Tom Glavine.

Moss pitched seven shutout innings, helped by a spectacular play by center fielder Andruw Jones, and struck out a career-high eight to lead the Atlanta Braves over the Minnesota Twins, 3-2, Wednesday night.

Moss (3-2) gave up two hits, allowed only one runner as far as second base and picked off two runners to help the Braves win for the eighth time in nine games.

His performance came one night after Glavine shut out the Twins on two hits over seven innings in an 11-0 victory.

“It’s always good to follow [Glavine],” Moss said. “Watching him gives me a good read on what hitters are going to do off of me.”

The left-hander has given up two earned runs or fewer in nine of 12 starts this year.

“I don’t think I’m quite as refined as Glavine is,” Moss said. “I think sometime in my career I have the chance to be if things go my way.”

Moss got more help from Jones, a four-time Gold Glove winner, in the seventh inning. Jones made a running catch of Torii Hunter’s fly ball on the warning track in center field, took a few steps and fired a throw on the fly to first baseman Wes Helms to double up Matthew LeCroy.
