Bonds Finally Slugs One Out at SkyDome

Barry Bonds waited until his last at-bat at SkyDome before homering.

Bonds connected in the ninth inning for his 22nd home run, and Damon Minor went four for four and homered in his third consecutive game as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-3, Wednesday night.

Bonds has homered in 12 consecutive series and in every park he has played in his major league career.

“I was having trouble seeing the ball out there the first couple of days,” Bonds said. “It’s tough when you don’t know the pitchers that well.”

Toronto reliever Cliff Politte threw three consecutive balls and then a strike before Bonds homered into the second deck in left field, giving the Giants a 6-3 lead.

Bonds went two for three with two intentional walks. He was walked five times in the series and leads the majors with 79 walks.

Politte seemed proud to give up the homer.

“I still talk about the one that I gave up to Sammy Sosa in 1998,” Politte said. “I’m just fortunate Mark McGwire is out of the game so I don’t have to give one up to him.”

Raul Mondesi hit a three-run homer against Felix Rodriguez in the eighth inning, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
