New Boston Red Sox Manager Grady Little replaced pitching coach Ralph Treuel with longtime friend and former New York Yankee bullpen coach Tony Cloninger on Thursday.

Cloninger spent 15 years in the Yankee organization and was bullpen coach nine of the past 10 years.

He was New York’s pitching coach in 1993. He was a scout for the San Francisco Giants this season.

“I’ve often said that it’s not how much you know, it’s how much you care. I really care for my players, my pitchers, my coaches,” Cloninger said.

Little said no other coaching staff changes are planned.
