Streaking Spurs Ferry Their Way Past Celtics

The Boston Celtics didn’t expect Danny Ferry would be the one to end their seven-game winning streak.

Ferry scored a season-high 18 points, including two three-point baskets in the final three minutes, leading the Spurs past the Celtics, 111-104, Saturday at San Antonio. “It was anybody’s game, and then Danny Ferry stepped up and made those three-pointers,” Boston’s Antoine Walker said. “This was one we let slip through our fingers.”

Tim Duncan led all scorers with 37 points, and the Spurs extended their winning streak to nine games. Walker and Paul Pierce each had 31 for the Celtics.

Portland 95, Washington 80--Shawn Kemp, making his first start this season, had season highs of 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Trail Blazers at Portland, Ore.

Dallas 117, Golden State 100--Raef LaFrentz had six three-pointers among his 30 points and Dirk Nowitzki scored 14 of his 30 points in the third quarter at Oakland, and the Mavericks beat the Warriors for the 12th consecutive time.

Denver guard Tim Hardaway was suspended for two games without pay and fined $10,000 by the league for his TV-tossing tirade and verbal abuse of officials Friday after his ejection at Orlando. Hardaway was ejected with 7:20 left in the third quarter after picking up his second technical foul.
