Huggins Denies He’s on the Move

Despite a report saying he would accept an offer to become West Virginia’s coach, Bob Huggins said Friday he has yet to make a decision.

Huggins, the Cincinnati coach, also did not indicate whether West Virginia has made an offer.

A report earlier in the day that appeared on CBS SportLine.com, based on unidentified sources, said Huggins would accept West Virginia’s offer.

“I have not made a decision,” Huggins, 48, told Cincinnati’s WCPO-TV. “I don’t know anything.”

Cincinnati and West Virginia newspapers reported that Huggins met with West Virginia officials Tuesday and Wednesday in Morgantown, W.Va.

Huggins was born in Morgantown, played for the Mountaineers in 1975-77 and began his career there as a graduate assistant.

In 22 seasons, including 13 at Cincinnati, Huggins has a 500-172 record.

John Pelphrey left Florida Coach Billy Donovan’s staff to become coach at South Alabama.

Pelphrey, 33, replaces Bob Weltlich, who accepted a contract buyout after a 7-21 season.

Wyoming Coach Steve McClain, 39, said he had removed his name from consideration for the opening at Texas Christian.

McClain has a 79-41 record in four seasons, including 22-9 this season.

The Owls (18-14) will play Tuesday at Madison Square Garden against the winner of tonight’s quarterfinal between Tennessee Tech and Memphis. Syracuse and South Carolina meet in the other semifinal.
