O.C. Deputy’s Guns Missing

An Orange County deputy sheriff’s vehicle stolen from outside his home in Bellflower Wednesday night was recovered--but six loaded handguns, a badge and bulletproof vest that were in the vehicle were still missing, police said.

The black 1993 Ford Explorer was stolen from the 10000 block of Ponderosa Street late Wednesday night or early Thursday, police said. Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Hayward Miller said it was not a violation of department policy to leave loaded guns inside.

The SUV was found behind a restaurant Thursday night on Clark Avenue in Bellflower after a resident called and said it had been sitting there all day with its windows open.

“There was nothing in it,” Stringham said.
