Major League Baseball asked the Star Tribune of Minneapolis to turn over documents that might show financial connections between the newspaper and the Minnesota Twins, the Metrodome or proposals for a new stadium.

The league is seeking the documents and testimony from a newspaper representative and lawyers for the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission.

The request came three days after the Associated Press, the Star Tribune and KARE-TV argued in district court that the public should be given a better opportunity to see documents in the lawsuit brought by the commission against the Twins and major league baseball.

The commission, which operates the Metrodome, is trying to prevent the Twins from leaving after the 2002 season.

Star Tribune publisher Keith Moyer said attorneys for the newspaper were reviewing the request.
