What: “BEST Baseball Survival and Endurance Training” video

Producer: Group 1 Productions

Price: $29.95

The opening gives the first hint that this isn’t a routine baseball instructional video. A group of older players is given a mission--to show a group of younger players what it takes to become proficient at the sport.

The older players, led by Coach Peter Bennett, the host of the video, are whisked away by helicopter, then meet the younger players after landing at Arce Field on the campus of Claremont McKenna College.

From there, Bennett and his helpers show exercises and drills that can be useful to players of all ages. The title may suggest a tough regimen, but the 83-minute video features demonstrations that are easy to follow and drills that are fun to do.

Unlike many other baseball instructional videos, shot in one day with a coach simply talking in front of an unsteady camera, this high-quality video was weeks in the making. Bennett has worked as a journalist for The Times and was the managing editor of a lifestyle magazine. He has also been a public-relations and marketing executive. He has been coaching youth baseball for more than two decades.

He now is vice president of business and community development for Sports Educators of America, which conducts baseball clinics throughout Southern California.

Bennett’s passion for baseball comes through in every drill and demonstration.
