Dallas Cowboy offensive lineman Jeremy McKinney has undergone a heart procedure to correct a narrowing of an artery.

McKinney, 26, played Sunday in Detroit, but felt shortness of breath after flying home. The 6-foot-6, 301-pound McKinney checked himself into an emergency room.

Tests Monday revealed some narrowing of an artery. He had an angioplasty procedure, which involves using a balloon to improve dilation, to clear up the condition.

Doctors said the procedure was a success and he is in good condition. His prognosis is excellent, and he should be released from the hospital by the end of the week.

His playing status this season has not been determined. Ross Tucker will take his spot at left guard when Dallas (3-6) returns from a bye Nov. 17 at Indianapolis.

A nephew and a friend of New England Patriot running back Kevin Faulk were being sought by police for allegedly using Faulk’s sports utility vehicle to steal a safe filled with money and marijuana in Norwood, Mass.

Warrants have been issued for Faulk’s nephew, Edward Comier, and friend, Cisco Dwayne Perkins, both 24, on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime and larceny, said Norwood police spokesman Paul Bishop.

Faulk told police he does not know the whereabouts of the two men, who police consider fugitives. It’s “totally clear” Faulk was not involved in the crime, Bishop said.

Fullback Terry Jackson agreed to a two-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers -- even though he won’t play again this season because of a knee injury.

Jackson, a fourth-year pro, is considered one of the NFL’s top special teams players. He’s also a backup to San Francisco fullback Fred Beasley and an emergency tailback.

Jackson tore a ligament in his knee last month in the 49ers’ victory over Seattle. He is still on crutches after surgery that will keep him out until next spring.

The Indianapolis Colts signed Autry Denson to bolster their injury-depleted corps of running backs.

Edgerrin James and backup Ricky Williams are out because of hamstring injuries, and Jim Finn wasn’t effective after a mild concussion early in Sunday’s loss to Tennessee.

Three backs, including Dominic Rhodes, were lost to knee injuries in training camp.

The St. Louis Rams signed linebacker Hakim Akbar.

The 6-foot, 220-pound Akbar, who spent this year’s training camp with the expansion Houston Texans, played on special teams for New England in six of the Patriots’ first nine games last season. He then went on injured reserve in November after being in an auto accident.

Cincinnati Bengal tight end Sean Brewer was put on injured reserve because of a knee problem, his latest setback in two injury-prone seasons. The Bengals signed tight end Chris Edmonds off their practice squad.
