Distance fans will be delighted with tonight’s card. Five of the nine races are either 870 yards or 4 1/2 furlongs.

One of the 870 races brings together a couple of old pros -- No Pet Peeves and Pennants Headlight.

Owned by Martha Wells and trained by Dan Francisco, No Pet Peeves, who has won 17 of 60 and earned close to $195,000, won in his return against $8,000 claimers Oct. 6 and is entered for the same price tonight.

A 7-year-old gelded son of The Signature, Pennants Headlight is drawn right outside No Pet Peeves and will be trying for his 12th win in his 70th start. He’s owned by Jackie and Rod Macpherson Jr. and trained by John Cooper.

The lone thoroughbred race is a $5,000 claimer and includes Flight Zone, who has won seven of 15, Wired To Win, who has won three of his last five starts at Los Alamitos, and the speedy Cielo Canosa, who finished third after setting the pace in the slop nine nights ago.

The picks: 1. Saturdays Promise. 2. Wired To Win. 3. Sheza Ramblin Too. 4. Brown Effort. 5. Bcr Grab The Cash. 6. Pretty Dashing. 7. No Pet Peeves. 8. Quanah Cartel. 9. Genester.

Four! Use Saturdays Promise, Going Going Gone and Don Jose Davalos in the first, Wired To Win and Induction Day in the second, Sheza Ramblin Too and Pj Flying Phoebe in the third and A Blurr and Brown Effort in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Just A Dasher probably needed his last and could wake up in the sixth. Tougherthantherest steps up in the seventh after being claimed by Francisco.
