NHL Picks Owner for Sabres
Buffalo, N.Y., businessman Mark Hamister has been chosen by the NHL to purchase the financially troubled Buffalo Sabres.
A news conference was scheduled for this afternoon at Hamister’s office in Buffalo.
Hamister beat out Rochester, N.Y., billionaire B. Thomas Golisano in the bidding for the team. Hamister owns the Arena Football League’s Buffalo Destroyers, and is chairman of National Health Care.
The transaction is conditional, and approval by the NHL Board of Governors is required.
