1 Killed, 1 Hurt in Shooting
One man was fatally shot and another seriously wounded during a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in Woodland Hills that police detectives said Monday was carried out by three men in a white Cadillac sport utility vehicle.
Dana Benson Sherman, 32, of Escondido died early Monday, nearly a day after he was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his chest.
A 29-year-old Woodland Hills man driving the car was hit twice in the legs and taken to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Woodland Hills, said Los Angeles Police Department homicide Det. Rick Swanston of the West Valley Division.
Police were at a loss for a motive.
Sherman, his brother and the driver were riding in a 1999 Nissan Altima that had stopped at a traffic light at Califa Street and Canoga Avenue just after midnight.
A Cadillac Escalade EXT with tinted windows, 22-inch chrome wheels and a small pickup bed pulled up in the next lane.
Two of the men in the SUV pulled out pistols and shot at the men in the Altima, who were unarmed, Swanston said. More than a dozen shots were fired.
Sherman’s brother, a 19-year-old Panorama City man, was not hurt.
Authorities withheld the names of the survivors of the shooting.
