Don’t Drop Airport Baggage Questions

Re “Luggage Quiz for Air Travelers Ends Today,” Aug. 29: James Loy of the Transportation Security Administration announced that questions to passengers about their luggage could be dropped. Loy stated that the questions had never resulted in stopping a terrorist act.

There is no way he could know that. The very fact that the questions were asked may have prevented terrorists from even trying to give a passenger something to carry. Although now everyone knows that passengers should not accept anything from a stranger or let their luggage out of their control, that may not be the case a few years from now.

At the very least, there should be large signs at airports saying that passengers should alert authorities if they have been given something by a stranger or if their bags have not been under their control.
