Man Dies of Accidental Self-Inflicted Gunshot
From Times Staff Reports
A Casitas Springs man accidentally shot and killed himself after going outside his home to check on a noise, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Michael Back, 43, was in his home in the 8000 block of Park View Drive when he heard a sound outside about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Deputy Ron Nelson said.
Nelson said Back put a .22-caliber pistol in his waistband and went out to investigate. The gun went off, hitting Back in the groin. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center and underwent extensive surgery but later died.
