Four Starters Suspended at Valencia

Four starters on the Valencia High football team have been suspended for the season opener Friday against La Puente Bishop Amat following an alcohol-related car accident over Labor Day weekend, Valencia Athletic Director Enrique Lopez said.

Valencia lost to Newhall Hart in the Southern Section Division III championship game last season.

Edison Field will be the site of five Southern Section playoff football games this season.

The Division I semifinals will be played there as a doubleheader on Dec. 7. The Division VI championship will be played on Dec. 13. The Division I and II finals will be Dec. 14 in the afternoon and evening, respectively.

Newbury Park baseball players Cody Collett, a catcher, and Joey Faruzzi, an outfielder, have committed to Fresno State. Collett broke the school’s record for runs batted in last season with 39.
