Arizona State Coach Dirk Koetter has decided to start sophomore Andrew Walter at quarterback in Saturday night’s game at San Diego State (0-2).

Redshirt freshman Chad Christensen had started the first three games for the Sun Devils (2-1), with Walter relieving Christensen in the season-opening loss at Nebraska and in the second half of last Saturday’s come-from-behind victory over Central Florida.

“We’ll flop roles this week. We’ll start off with Andrew and see where that takes us,” Koetter said.

Illinois Coach Ron Turner says Jon Beutjer, a transfer from Iowa, will start at quarterback Saturday when the Fighting Illini (0-2) play host to Arkansas State (1-2). Beutjer replaces Dustin Ward.... Florida Coach Ron Zook is planning several lineup changes after Saturday’s stinging loss to No. 1 Miami, the most significant of which involve linebacker Byron Hardmon. He will move from the outside to the middle and replace Matt Farrior. Todd McCullough will play at Hardmon’s outside position when the 12th-ranked Gators (1-1) play Ohio (0-2) on Saturday.... Indiana Coach Gerry DiNardo says Gibran Hamdan will start at quarterback in place of Tommy Jones when the Hoosiers (1-1) travel to play Kentucky (2-0). Jones suffered a concussion in the first half of Saturday’s loss to Utah and is still feeling the effects of the injury.... The task of rebuilding Kansas’ offensive line may have been too much for assistant Ken Conatser, who resigned after only two games. Conatser, 62, was the second offensive line coach hired by first-year Coach Mark Mangino. Former Notre Dame assistant Dave Borbely joined the Jayhawk staff last winter, but he resigned before the start of spring practice to take a job at Colorado.
