League favorites: Sun Valley Village Christian (Alpha), Redlands Arrowhead Christian (Christian), Mammoth (Desert Mountain), Mojave (High Desert), L.A. Salesian (Santa Fe).
Contenders: Ontario Christian (Christian); Bishop, Edwards AFB Desert (High Desert).
Key dates: Friday, Arrowhead Christian at Bishop, Village Christian at Mojave; Sept. 20, Mammoth at Bishop; Nov. 1, Mojave at Bishop; Nov. 15, Arrowhead Christian at Salesian.
The scoop: Division teams are breathing a sigh of relief because four-time defending champion Paraclete has moved back to Division XI, but the addition of the Christian and Desert Mountain leagues won’t make things any easier. Arrowhead Christian won the Division XIII title last season, defeating Mammoth in the final. Arrowhead Christian, which has been to section finals in five of the last six years and won three of them, has 10 starters returning and is the division favorite. Mammoth returns 12 starters and adds several key players from a 10-0 junior varsity team. High Desert League power Mojave has the experience edge with 30 returning lettermen.
