Barry Bonds reached 100 RBIs in a season for the 11th time in his career, tying the NL record set by Hank Aaron, and the Giants defeated the San Diego Padres, 12-4, Saturday night at San Francisco.

Bonds hit a pair of run-scoring singles and Pedro Feliz matched his career high with three RBIs as the Giants remained one game ahead of the Dodgers in the NL wild-card race.

It was the first scheduled Saturday night game played at Pacific Bell Park in the stadium’s three-year history.

Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig hold the major league record of 13 seasons with 100 RBIs.

Bonds’ first-inning single marked the 13th consecutive time he had reached base, two short of the NL mark he shares with John Olerud. The streak ended when he grounded out in the third inning.

Livan Hernandez (11-15) allowed four runs and 10 hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 5 2/3 innings to win his second straight start.

Arizona 5, Milwaukee 0--Randy Johnson earned his career-high 22nd victory, pitching a three-hitter and striking out 17 to lead the Diamondbacks at Phoenix.

Johnson (22-5) and Curt Schilling (23-5) are the first National League teammates to each win at least 22 games since 1965--when Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale did it for the Dodgers.

The victory reduced Arizona’s magic number for clinching the NL West title to nine with 14 games left.

Johnson walked two and matched his season high in strikeouts during his 15th double-digit strikeout game in 33 starts this season. Johnson has struck out at least 10 batters 186 times in his career, 29 short of Nolan Ryan’s major league record.

St. Louis 2, Houston 1--Woody Williams showed no ill effects from a strained muscle in his left side, pitching seven scoreless innings for his third consecutive victory for the Cardinals at Houston.

The Cardinals won for the 10th time in 11 games to extend their lead to seven games over the Astros.

Williams (9-4), making his fourth start since coming off the disabled list Aug. 29, held the Astros to five hits.

Atlanta 10, Florida 5--Tom Glavine, who had lost a career-high four consecutive starts, hung on with help from the bullpen in the Braves’ victory at Miami.

Glavine (17-10) pitched five-plus innings for his first win in his last six starts. Given a 5-0 lead, he was chased in the sixth when the Marlins scored four runs.

Javy Lopez hit a three-run homer and Gary Sheffield hit his 25th homer for the Braves.

Philadelphia 4, Pittsburgh 1--Fill-in Eric Junge pitched five impressive innings for his first major league win in the Phillies’ victory at Philadelphia.

Pat Burrell hit his 37th homer and Bobby Abreu had a two-run single as Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh for the first time in five tries this season.

Junge (1-0) made an emergency start after Brandon Duckworth was unable to pitch because of stiffness in his back.

Montreal 5, New York 4--Michael Barrett and Endy Chavez hit two-run doubles in the sixth inning as the Expos overcame Mike Piazza’s two homers to beat the Mets at Montreal. Piazza reached 30 home runs for the eighth straight season.

Chicago 7, Cincinnati 6--Fred McGriff got his 1,500th career RBI with a two-run homer, and Moises Alou hit a three-run shot to lead the Cubs at Cincinnati. McGriff, who has driven in 101 runs this season, became the 40th player with 1,500 RBIs.
