Carlos Guillen hit a two-out single that scored pinch-runner Jose Offerman in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Texas Rangers, 3-2, Tuesday night.

Seattle is seven games behind Oakland in the American League wild-card race with 11 games left.

John Olerud led off the 10th with a single against Rich Rodriguez (3-2) and Offerman pinch ran. He took second on Bret Boone’s sacrifice, moved to third on an infield out and scored on Guillen’s drive against C.J. Nitkowski, which bounced off the center-field wall.

Seattle had runners on first and second with nobody out in the eighth, but Guillen and pinch-hitters Ruben Sierra and Desi Relaford fouled out.

Texas starter Chan Ho Park gave up two runs--one earned--five hits and eight walks in eight innings.

Seattle’s Ryan Franklin, making his 10th career start, struck out a career-high nine and walked two in 8 1/3 innings. He retired the first 14 batters before Carl Everett’s looping single into shallow left field.

Boone got his 99th run batted in when he walked with the bases loaded in the first after Park walked two batters and hit another. Olerud had a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Minnesota 7, Detroit 4--The Twins won at Detroit despite losing outfielders Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones, and third baseman Corey Koskie to injuries.

Jones had four hits, including a homer leading off the game, before spraining his left ankle on an awkward slide into second. Hunter had a bruised left triceps after being hit by a pitch and Koskie bruised his right shin after fouling a ball off his leg. X-rays didn’t show any major injuries.

Luis Rivas tied a career high with four hits, and Brad Radke (9-4) sent Detroit to its 21st loss in 26 games.

Eddie Guardado pitched the ninth for his 42nd save, tying the team record shared by Jeff Reardon and Rick Aguilera.

Boston 4, Cleveland 2--Tim Wakefield won his fourth consecutive start, giving up five hits in eight innings at Boston, and Manny Ramirez hit his seventh homer in 11 games, an eighth-inning drive.

Wakefield (11-5) also got support from Benny Agbayani’s run-scoring single in the second and Rey Sanchez’s two-run double in the fourth.

The home run was Ramirez’s 33rd and he reached 100 runs batted in for the fifth consecutive season despite sitting out 39 games after breaking his finger May 11.

Ugueth Urbina earned his 36th save. Jim Thome hit his 46th home run for Cleveland.

Baltimore 10, Toronto 4--Chris Singleton hit two of the host Orioles’ season-high five home runs, and Australian rookie John Stephens (2-4) earned his second major league victory, giving up four runs, six hits and four walks in six-plus innings.

Singleton hit solo homers in the fourth and seventh innings. It was his second career two-homer game, the first coming in September 1999 against the New York Yankees.

Stephens overcame a rocky start to win for the first time in five starts since Aug. 17.

Chicago 6, Kansas City 1--Mark Buehrle (18-11) gave up six hits in seven innings at Chicago and became the first White Sox left hander to win 18 games since Britt Burns finished 18-11 in 1985.

With two starts left, Buehrle has a chance to become the White Sox’s first 20-game winner since Jack McDowell in 1993.

Frank Thomas and Magglio Ordonez hit consecutive homers. Mike Sweeney homered for the Royals, who have lost 15 of 20.
