Cal Poly Seeks Funds to Maintain Ranch

A retired businessman wants to donate his 200-acre ranch to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, but only if the school can raise $10 million for an endowment to run the farm.
Owner Walter Thomson has pledged $5 million to ensure the facility’s livelihood. The university has until May 1 to raise the remaining $10 million.
