Students Participating in Antiwar Rally Show Christ-Like Values
Re “Fearing Rally Will Turn Violent, Mater Dei Cancels Class for Day,” April 2:
I would like to commend the students at Mater Dei High who publicly exhibited their deep belief in the Catholic social justice teachings at the peace rally on April 2.
These children exhibited true Christ-like values by publicly speaking out and modeling the four main aspects of social justice -- solidarity, education, community organizing and advocacy.
It appears that the Catholic hierarchy in Orange County, by canceling school at Mater Dei over fears that violence would occur, may need to renew its faith in the Roman Catholic social justice teachings.
Maybe our Catholic leaders should start supporting the courage, morality, ethics and faith that our children share with our communities and stop reacting with fear. Without justice, there will never be peace. Without justice, faith is empty. These children and their parents should be commended. Thank you to all of them.
