A 42-year-old bank janitor is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on charges of stealing $16,000 in cash that was mistakenly left on a counter at Union Bank in Moorpark, authorities said.
Alejandro Ortega of Thousand Oaks was arrested Thursday after bank officials reported the March 27 incident to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Det. Steve Jenkinson said. Officials at the bank, at 256 W. Los Angeles Ave., discovered the money was missing and determined that a bank employee had left it out by mistake, Jenkinson said.
Investigators searched Ortega’s home, where they recovered about $14,000 in cash. Ortega allegedly spent the other $2,000, officials said.
