Missouri President Elson Floyd said Thursday he will not resign after embarrassing details emerged about his association with former Tiger guard Ricky Clemons.

“I did nothing wrong that was inappropriate,” Floyd told the university’s governing board of curators. “The engagement with Ricky Clemons has been candidly a nightmare and it continues to be so.”

Clemons said in taped jailhouse phone calls last summer that he and two current players received cash from coaches Tony Harvey and Lane Odom.

Clemons served two months for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and was kicked off the team.

Floyd said he ended contact with the player after Clemons wrecked an all-terrain vehicle during a July 4 party at Floyd’s home. But Floyd’s wife, Carmento, continued to accept collect calls from Clemons when he was in jail, without her husband’s knowledge.

Baylor’s internal review committee plans to recommend further sanctions in the men’s program after finding evidence of more NCAA rules violations under former coach Dave Bliss. The committee said it found instances of inappropriate payments for plane tickets and meals and a secondary violation in which a player received excess tickets.
