Oxnard Man Is Being Held in Shooting Death
A 20-year-old Oxnard man was arrested Monday on suspicion of fatally shooting another Oxnard man during an apparent robbery over the weekend, authorities said.
Damion Jackson was taken into custody about 1:40 p.m. as he left his home in the 1400 block of Lyonia Drive, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Jim Seitz.
Mark Droney, 42, was shot in the stomach about 7:15 a.m. Saturday at his home in the 3100 block of Geronimo Drive. He died Sunday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.
“This was a good arrest,” said Assistant Police Chief Chuck Hookstra. “Our guys worked it straight through from the weekend. When we get a case, the first 72 hours are the most important.”
The investigative team led by Seitz included Dets. Bob Coughlin, Mike Palmieri, David Klug and Joe Chase.
Jackson is being held in Ventura County Jail.
