The Kentucky Wildcats aren’t dominating the Southeastern Conference, they’re making it look easy.
Marquis Estill had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots, and the No. 3-ranked Wildcats won their 13th consecutive game, defeating No. 20 Georgia, 87-67, Tuesday night at Lexington, Ky.
The Wildcats, 19-3 overall and 9-0 in the SEC, matched their longest winning streak in Coach Tubby Smith’s six seasons.
The Wildcats have averaged a 17-point margin of victory during the streak.
“I don’t know what the secret is, but I’m loving it. I hope we can take this a long way,” said forward Chuck Hayes, who had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Kentucky improved to 8-1 against ranked opponents.
The Wildcats held Georgia (13-7, 5-4), the scoring leader in the conference, to 43% shooting (28 of 65). The Bulldogs are the best three-point shooting team in the conference but made only two of 14 tries (14%) against Kentucky.
“You can play defense when you can’t do anything else,” Smith said. “Great teams play great defense. It’s about heart and desire.”
No. 9 Kansas 79, Baylor 58 -- Nick Collison scored nine of his 15 points in a game-turning run at Waco, Texas, and the Jayhawks remained atop the Big 12 Conference standings.
Collison drove for a short bank shot with 3:34 left in the first half, starting a 15-0 run for the Jayhawks (18-5, 8-1).
The run included the last 10 points before halftime for a 41-28 lead.
Keith Langford had a game-high 19 points on seven-for-10 shooting, including consecutive three-point plays in the first half that put Kansas ahead to stay.
R.T. Guinn had 15 points for Baylor (10-10, 1-8), which is 0-6 against top 25 teams.
