Officer Fatally Shoots Man, 22, at Hospital

A police officer fatally shot a man who lunged at him with a pair of scissors Thursday near the entrance to a psychiatric and chemical dependency hospital, authorities said.
The officer went to Las Encinas Hospital at 2900 E. Del Mar Blvd. about 5:40 p.m., responding to a report of a man causing problems. The 22-year-old man was not a patient there, police said.
The man, who has not been identified, died at Huntington Memorial Hospital, a police spokeswoman said.
