New Orleans Hornet guard Baron Davis said his injured left knee, which will require surgery for damaged cartilage, may turn out to be a benefit because the rehabilitation period will let his bad back heal.

“Now I’m going to have a proper rest for my back and get the proper treatment for that as well as my knee. So when I come back, I can be a lot stronger,” Davis said Monday night.

His surgery is scheduled for today and Davis, averaging 17 points and seven assists in 36 games, said his rehabilitation could last from three to six weeks.
