Woman Dies in Crash of Car Driven by Daughter
A 55-year-old woman died Monday night when a car driven by her daughter ran off California 118 in Moorpark and caught fire.
Socorro Leticia Zepeda de Kafaja, 32, of Moorpark was driving west on California 118 east of Collins Drive about 9:50 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle.
The car ran up an embankment and caught fire after coming to rest.
Zepeda de Kafaja apparently was ejected, but her mother, Socorro Ortega, was trapped inside and died at the scene of smoke inhalation, authorities said.
Zepeda de Kafaja was listed in serious condition at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Ortega moved to Ventura County from Mexico recently and had been living with her daughter.
