5 Killed When Car Overturns on Highway
Five people died Monday when their vehicle overturned on California 99 near Pixley, the California Highway Patrol said. Pixley is north of Bakersfield.
The southbound lanes of the highway were briefly closed after the 7 a.m. crash.
Police said the vehicle was traveling south at an unknown speed when it drifted into the left lane. The driver apparently overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip several times.
A 43-year-old woman, 66-year-old woman and 15-year-old boy, all from Modesto, were killed. Also killed were a 15-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy from Fort Worth.
Three passengers in the vehicle suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities did not release the victims’ names.
