FC Barcelona signed Brazilian World Cup winner Ronaldinho from Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday in a transfer deal worth up to $33.6 million.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who agreed to a five-year contract, will undergo a physical today and be officially introduced Monday.

Barcelona officials said the team will pay a $28-million transfer fee and up to another $5.6 million depending on how the team performs.

“Everything worked out fine,” Barcelona Vice President Sandro Rosell said. “It’s all settled.”

The signing ends a bidding war between Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid, and gives the struggling Catalan team the kind of high-profile player President Joan Laporta promised when he campaigned for the job he won last month.

Laporta had tried to land David Beckham, but the Manchester United star ultimately signed with Real Madrid.

Peace Cup

French champion Lyon edged host Seongnam Ilhwa, 1-0, and advanced to the championship match of the Peace Cup in Seoul.

In the other Group A match, South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs held Turkish powerhouse Besiktas to a 2-2 tie and both sides finished out of contention.

Lyon will face the top finisher of Group B -- consisting of the Galaxy, Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, Uruguay’s Nacional and Germany’s 1860 Munich -- in the final match.
