Agoos Does His Share for Earthquakes, 3-0

Jeff Agoos scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the San Jose Earthquakes over the Dallas Burn, 3-0, in a Major League Soccer game Saturday night in front of 9,034 at San Jose.

The victory gave San Jose (8-3-6) sole possession of the Western Conference lead. The Burn (3-10-4) remained in the Western Conference cellar.

Agoos converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute after Burn defender Chris Gbandi fouled Jamil Walker in the Dallas penalty area.

Agoos had an assist on the second goal, feeding Manny Lagos in the 37th minute.

Chicago 2, Kansas City 0 -- Evan Whitfield and Justin Mapp scored both goals in front of 11,877 at Naperville, Ill.

The Fire (8-4-4) maintained its perfect home record against the Wizards (7-4-6), who lost for the first time in three games.

Colorado 1, MetroStars 0 -- Mark Chung scored in the 25th minute to give the Rapids (6-8-3) the win in front of 14,097 at Denver. The loss is the first for the MetroStars (8-5-4) in Denver since May 22, 1999.

Washington 2, San Diego 0 -- Abby Wambach scored her sixth goal in six games and Mia Hamm had a goal and an assist as the Freedom beat the Spirit in front of 7,993 at Washington. The Spirit played without top scorer Julie Fleeting, who suffered a concussion Thursday against Boston.

Carolina 3, Philadelphia 1 -- Venus James scored two goals and Birgit Prinz had one to lead the Courage in front of 8,093 at Villanova, Pa.

New York 1, Atlanta 1 -- Shannon Boxx’s goal in the 61st minute tied the game for the Power in front of 5,426 at Uniondale, N.Y.
