They’re Not Buying Richardson’s Case
Nolan Richardson is removed from his duties as basketball coach at Arkansas per the terms of his contract and it’s racism [“Hog Riled,” Feb. 23]. The cry of racism in the hiring and firing of coaches has become a synonym for whining.

I enjoyed your article about Nolan Richardson and his departure from the University of Arkansas basketball program. However, I feel that there was a hint of bias on the side of Coach Richardson. Although your stance is admirable from the viewpoint of minority relations, Nolan’s firing had more to do with his attitude toward the University of Arkansas, his performance as a coach, and more specifically, his statement that he wanted to be paid to leave.
If Coach Richardson were fired because of his race, why did the university hire an African American to replace him?
