Someone drops the ball at Hollywood bowling party

Another invitation, another Hollywood opening. But this one could not escape our skeptical eye even if we tried. It weighed 11 pounds!

For the opening of Lucky Strike Lanes -- a new bowling alley lounge where you can bowl, party and appreciate art in the same space -- we received our very own engraved blue bowling ball enticing us to bring “your new bowling ball along with you ... as a fashion accessory as you lounge and sip cocktails.”

The only place we brought our personalized ball was back to the offices of PR firm People’s Revolution, because basic journalist ethics policies don’t include accepting gifts even when names are engraved on them.

But, ball or no ball, the event sounded like fun, so we accepted the much-hyped invitation to party with such stars as Justine Bateman and Alyssa Milano at Hollywood’s only bowling alley, at Hollywood and Highland. (Hollywood Star Lanes closed two years ago.)

And then we couldn’t get in.

Human error (People’s Revolution) left us off The List, and even though the Lucky Strike is new, the red-carpet/velvet-rope mob scene was not. The cold and unaccommodating List Dude was completely unmoved by the fact that we were there to cover the scene.

We never set foot in the joint (owned by Steven and Gillian Foster). I guess you could say we struck out.
