Field of 11 in the Pinjara

Share

Prepping for the richer Generous Stakes in four weeks at Hollywood Park, 11 2-year-olds are scheduled to go a mile on the turf in today’s $70,000 Pinjara at Santa Anita. The race is part of a pick six with a carryover of $102,741.

The 5-2 morning line favorite is Nister Bere, a French import who will be making his first start for high-percentage trainer Jeff Mullins.

A gray son of Verglas, Nister Bere will race with Lasix for the first time after winning once in 10 tries in his native country. This will be his first start beyond seven furlongs and he’ll break from the outside under jockey Julie Krone.

A $50,000 claim out of a maiden victory by trainer Gary Stute for the late Sam Longo, The Herc paid immediate dividends. The Lord Carson colt won the $75,000-added Sunny Slope Stakes on Oct. 18 and now he’ll try to stretch his speed around two turns in his turf debut.

Other logical contenders include General Moody, an impressive grass winner last month, and True Contender, who overcame a horrible beginning to easily best maidens at nearly 17-1 for trainer Joe Parga on Oct. 3.

Race of the day: Stellar Jayne, who has won two of three starts for trainer Wayne Lukas, is among 10 2-year-old fillies scheduled to run in the $100,000 Pocahontas today at Churchill Downs.

One for the road: In a race where the experienced faces are a combined 0 of 49, Bold Banker is a first-time starter who has trained well for today’s fourth at Hawthorne. The Banker’s Gold colt is trained by James DiVito.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Macaneo, Cappucino Kid, Dixie Law and Marine in the sixth, singling Profuse in the seventh, Nister Bere and True Contender in the eighth and Huka’s Diamond and Presenter in the ninth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/70. Money: Previous day/meet total: $9/$374.40. Total money bet: $434.
