Fillmore Woman Dies After Car Runs Off Road
A Fillmore woman was found dead in her car at the bottom of an embankment Tuesday morning along California 126 near 12th Street in Santa Paula.
Karen Real, 22, was traveling east and apparently veered off the highway, said Steve Reid, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
There were no known witnesses to the crash, which was reported by a passerby who saw the wreckage and called police about 7:15 a.m., Reid said.
Authorities believe the crash may have occurred hours before it was reported.
“A woman who lives in the area said she heard a loud crash at 12:45 a.m., but did not notify authorities,” Reid said.
Real died of head and neck injuries, said Ventura County Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens.
