From Times Staff Reports

The toddler who was mistakenly pronounced dead after nearly drowning last week is in remarkably good shape, according to her family’s attorney.

Brian Oxman said tests show that 20-month-old Mackayala Jespersen suffered no gross abnormalities to her brain and “will be able to communicate and take care of herself.”

Resuscitated child -- A brief article in Tuesday’s California section about an Orange County toddler who was revived 40 minutes after being declared dead last week incorrectly named the hospital where she is recovering. Mackayala Jespersen is at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, not Anaheim Memorial Hospital.

Oxman said it could take as long as 10 days before doctors know if Mackayala will suffer speech impairment or have trouble walking or grasping objects. The child remained in critical but stable condition Monday at Anaheim Memorial Hospital.
