From a Times Staff Writer

A 44-year-old Oxnard man was killed Wednesday morning when he was ejected from his truck in an accident on the southbound Pacific Coast Highway near Deer Creek Road.

Johnny Ayala died shortly after 8 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle while trying to pass a car on the rain-slick highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

When Ayala tried to brake, his vehicle fishtailed and crossed the highway, ending up on the opposite side of the road, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
