Don’t Hate Vijay, Embrace Him

It was a pleasure to watch Vijay Singh smoke Tiger Woods in the PGA Tour Championship after The Times had reported in Friday’s paper, “Tiger Woods had no trouble distancing himself from chief rival Vijay Singh in the first round.”

Singh might not be the best interview, may not be the most charismatic, and may have made some controversial comments about Annika Sorenstam, but is he the player of the year? No doubt.

Their overall stats are very close, but Tiger always says it’s all about the majors, so let’s look at the stats. Vijay had two top-10s, Tiger one. Vijay outscored Tiger in three of the four majors (they tied in the other). Vijay was in contention heading into the final round in all four majors. Tiger truly was never in contention heading into the final round.

I know that Tiger is more interesting, but Singh was better this year. Give him his due.
