Emergency Landing Ends in Crash, Fatality
From Staff and Wire Reports
A small plane trying an emergency landing crashed into the dry Santa Ana River in an unincorporated area north of Norco, killing one person and igniting a 5-acre brush fire that was quickly contained, said Riverside County Fire spokeswoman Joanne Evans.
The crash occurred at 3:43 p.m., shortly after the plane took off from Corona. The pilot reported an on-board fire and said he would try to land at Chino airport, authorities said. The plane was headed to Oakland.
