Yell Might Finally Hit Pay Dirt in Raven Run

Share

When Yell won the Davona Dale by six lengths last winter at Gulfstream Park, the daughter of A.P. Indy looked to be one of the rising stars in the 3-year-old filly division.

Things didn’t quite pan out. Yell is winless in six races, all Grade Is, since that victory on Feb. 23.

Dropping into a Grade III today, the dark bay filly will try to end her losing streak against 12 others in the $150,000 Raven Run at Keeneland.

A winner of three of nine for Mrs. Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm and trained by Shug McGaughey, Yell will be ridden by Pat Day in the seven-furlong race, and she is one of four members in the cast carrying 123 pounds.

This will be the first visit to Keeneland for Yell since she finished fourth behind Elloluv in the Ashland Stakes on April 5, the first of her six consecutive defeats.

From the inside out, the rest of the field includes Country Romance, Westerly Breeze, Halory Leigh, My Trusty Cat, Valid Pulpit, Molto Vita, Tina Bull, Hippogator, Ebony Breeze, Golden Marlin, Holiday Runner and Fabulous Brush.

Only three of the entrants in the Raven Run have won previously at Keeneland. My Trusty Cat broke her maiden about a year ago, Westerly Breeze won the 2002 Alcibiades, and Holiday Runner earned her maiden victory on April 7, 2002.
