LeClair Is Back in Style for Flyers

John LeClair picked up where he left off in training camp.

LeClair, playing his first game since breaking a bone in his left foot during camp, had a goal and an assist, Robert Esche earned his sixth career shutout and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 5-0, Monday at Philadelphia.

“LeClair was excellent,” Flyer Coach Ken Hitchcock said. “It looks like he never missed a beat from training camp.”

The Flyers ended a three-game winless (0-2-1) streak.

“I felt better than I thought I would tonight,” LeClair said. “I’m pretty happy with the way things turned out.”

The Canadiens, who had won five of six, lost their second in a row.

Esche was rarely tested and finished with 20 saves in his first victory this season.

LeClair, acquired from Montreal in 1995, has scored 46 points (29 goals, 17 assists) in 31 games against his former team.

Atlanta 3, Toronto 2 -- Marc Savard and Jeff Cowan scored 24 seconds apart in the third period, and Savard scored with 15 seconds left in overtime at Toronto.

The victory came in front of the family of Dan Snyder, the Atlanta player who died Oct. 5 from injuries suffered in a car crash six days earlier.

Snyder was from Elmira, Canada, about 70 miles from Toronto.
