Emmys for Sept. 11 coverage

PBS won seven honors and CBS took five at the 24th annual news and documentary Emmys, which were dominated by awards for Sept. 11 coverage. ABC, NBC, MSNBC and the Discovery Channel won three Emmys each.

The prizes were awarded in New York on Wednesday night by the National Television Academy. The awards were for work done during 2002.

The academy presented a lifetime achievement award to Don Hewitt, executive producer of CBS’ “60 Minutes,” and a crew of past and present producers and correspondents for the program.

Among the awards for PBS were best documentary for an episode of “Nova” called “Why the Towers Fell”; best science, technology and nature programming for “The Secret Life of the Brain”; and best long-form cultural and artistic programming for “Ansel Adams: A Documentary Film.”
